Stop Mandatory Energy Audits and Scoring - respond to the MAR Call for Action

Thank you to those members who replied to MAR’s Call for Action to oppose mandatory energy audits and scoring.

Over 2,100 members from across the state replied, but we can do better.  Locally, just 181 of our 1,650 members responded to the Call for Action.

If you did not reply, Please contact your state representative TODAY.

This week, you should begin to see advertisements in opposition to mandatory energy scoring and audits on various news websites as well as on the radio.  Some of these ads are specifically targeted to the districts of those legislators on the conference committee.  Those ads will link to this page:

Please keep pushing this issue out to your colleagues and encourage them to discuss it with their family, friends, customers and clients.  Our legislators need to hear from their constituents on this.   We expect this issue to be wrapped up within the next ten days, likely sooner than later.  We will keep you posted with any developments.  Thank you.

Code of Ethics corner
Do not solicit a withdrawn listing.  Do not solicit an active listing.

QUESTION: I see that a listing is “withdrawn” in MLS. Does the Code of Ethics allow me to now contact the seller?

ANSWER: No.  A “withdrawn” listing in the MLS does not necessarily mean that the listing contract between the seller and the seller’s agent has expired. Rather, it typically means that there is a listing agreement still in effect, and that the seller and seller’s agent mutually agreed to withdraw the listing from the MLS.

As a reminder, REALTOR® Code of Ethics Article 16 provides that:

“REALTORS® shall not engage in any practice or take any action inconsistent with exclusive representation or exclusive brokerage relationship agreement that other REALTORS® have with clients.”

Moreover, Standard of Practice 16-4 states:

“REALTORS® shall not solicit a listing which is currently listed exclusively with another broker.”

The REALTOR® may only contact the seller if the listing agent refuses to disclose the expiration date and nature of the listing, and only to secure such information.

When calling a prospective client, always remember to check the do-no-call registry. The registry is maintained by the Federal Trade Commission and penalties for violations can be harsh.

Review the 2016 NAR Code of Ethics.

19 students awarded a RAPV scholarship
This is the 42nd year the association has awarded scholarships to area high school students about to enter college.

Since 1992, over 450 students have been awarded over $266,400 in scholarships.  This milestone is made possible thanks to the generosity of many members over the years, and to scores of hard-working Scholarship Committee members.

The students were honored at the awards banquet on June 9 at the Log Cabin.  Congratulations!
