Realtor® Safety

Last September we were shocked and saddened by the murder of Arkansas Realtor® Beverly Carter.  Last week, it was announced that the wife of the man charged with the kidnapping and murder was sentenced to 30 years in prison.  She pleaded guilty to reduced charges for agreeing to testify against her estranged husband.

This is a stark and sad reminder of the dangers we face in our business.  Here is a list of articles and tips about Realtor® Safety conveniently organized by category such as: Personal and Professional Safety, Cyber Safety, Safety at Open House and Property Showings, Safety for Rural Real Estate, Safety Tips to Share with Clients, and more.  Please take the time to review the material.  Share and discuss it at an office meeting.

All members need to be vigilant.  There was a male agent in Arizona who went missing from a showing recently.  Violence knows no gender.  Be careful.

24th Annual Benefit Golf Tournament

One-hundred and ten members and guests participated in the 24th Annual Benefit Golf Tournament held at Oak Ridge Golf Course on June 18.  We thank our sponsors and all the players and the event co-chairs Marilyn Ghedini and Lisa Kraus.   The weather was good and as usual it was a fun time.

Lead Paint - The Property Transfer Notification Certification

Q.        I have heard conflicting advice as to how to fill out the Property Transfer Notification Certification. I know that fines for failure to complete this form correctly can be severe, so I want to make sure I do the right thing. If the seller has indicated that they have no knowledge of lead paint and no documents (a)(ii) (b)(ii), how does the purchaser acknowledge that information? Must they initial that they have received no documents, by initialing (d), or should (d) only be initialed if the seller stated that they had provided the purchaser with all available records and reports (b)(i), but failed to provide them to the purchaser?

Read the answer.
